UM Entertainment & Sports Conference 2018


CORAL GABLES, Fla. (January 31, 2017) – The Global Entertainment + Sport Conference 2018, presented by the University of Miami School of Law’s Entertainment & Sports Law Society and the School of Education & Human Development’s Sports Administration Program, will be held on Friday, February 16 and Thursday and Friday, April 5 and 6, 2018.

The unique conference focuses on the areas of both law and business with keynote addresses and panels by prominent attorneys and executives. Students, alumni, and legal professionals will have numerous networking opportunities throughout the forums.

The February conference will spotlight entertainment law and the entertainment industry with discussions including sexual harassment, music publishing, streaming services, and representation. Speakers include Scott Becher, vice president of Partnerships at Carnival Cruise Line; and Darren Heitner, founder of Heitner Legal and a sports writer for Inc. Magazine.

In April, the two-day conference will drill down on topics such as the rise of activism, financial planning, and brand building for athletes as well as monetizing digital content and sports gaming. Speakers include Tobias Sherman, CEO & co-Founder of FOUNDRY IV; Arny Schreer, vice president and general manager of partnership development at ‎Home Team Sports, a division of Fox Sports Media Group; and ESPN sports analyst Maria Taylor.

The cost for the February 16 entertainment conference is $75 for general admission, $50 for young alumni, and $25 for non-UM students. For the April 5 and 6 sports conference, the cost is $125 general admission, $100 for young alumni, and $75 for non-UM students. For the three days, the price is $180/140/60.

The symposium venue is the Donna E. Shalala Center at 1330 Miller Drive on the Coral Gables campus. Sixteen CLE credits for each are pending with The Florida Bar.
