Judge Robreno was appointed United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania on July 27, 1992 where he currently sits and maintains a full civil and criminal case load. He also sits regularly by designation in the Ninth Circuit and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal and in the District Courts of Delaware and New Jersey. He was the first Cuban born American to be appointed to the federal bench. Prior to joining the bench, he was in private practice from 1981 to 1992.
From 1978 to 1981 Judge Robreno served as a Trial Attorney for the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice and as Special Assistant United States Attorney. He served as a member of the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Bankruptcy Rules from 1993 to 1999 and from 2013 to 2019 was a member of the Judicial Conference Committee on Bankruptcy Administration.
For the past 25 years Judge Robreno has taught a course in pre-trial litigation practice at both Rutgers University School of Law and Villanova Law School. He was the course planner and moderator of Best Practices in Pre-Trial Litigation in Federal Court I, II, III & IV. He is currently presiding over In re Asbestos Products Liability, MDL-875, once the largest multi-district litigation case in the Federal courts and In re Google Cookie Placement Consumer Privacy Litigation, MDL-2358 in the District of Delaware.
