Alex Schimel earned a B.F.A. with University Honors from Carnegie Mellon University in 2003. He earned a J.D. summa cum laude from the University of Miami in 2009, where he was a member of the University of Miami Law Review, Iron Arrow Honor Society, and Order of the Coif.

After law school, Mr. Schimel was an associate at Bilzin Sumberg LLP, where his practice focused on complex real estate transactions, primarily in the fields of commercial mortgage-backed securities and multi-tenant leasing. Prior to law school, Mr. Schimel worked at CNN in the financial news bureau, where he contributed to coverage of global financial markets and breaking news. Previously, Mr. Schimel worked at Miramax Films, where he worked on post production and marketing initiatives for several Academy Award winning films.

Mr. Schimel has served on the Bar Passage Committee of the AALS section on Academic Support, the Association of Academic Support Educators, and the Student Education & Admissions to the Bar Committee of the Florida Bar.

Mr. Schimel is the Director of Miami Law's Academic Achievement Program and the author of the popular book Law School Exams: A Guide to Better Grades (Carolina Academic Press, 2018, 2012).
