Exchange Program with University of Haifa

Miami Law has expanded its international reach to include an exchange agreement with the University of Haifa. This program offers intellectually and culturally exciting opportunities for Miami students.

The University of Haifa is one of the top public universities in Haifa, Israel. The Law School at the University of Haifa is one of the leading law schools in Israel offering a Bachelor’s in Law (LL.B.) program, a Master’s in Law (LL.M.) program, and a Doctorate in Law (Ph.D.) program. Haifa, Israel's third largest city, is located on the Mediterranean Sea. Haifa hosts the world-famous Bahai Gardens. The campus of the University of Haifa spreads along a Carmel Mountain ridge southeast of the city of Haifa and is surrounded by the Carmel National Park. Its location makes it a city of spectacular views, particularly of Mt. Carmel and the bay. The University is considered one of the most pluralistic institutions of higher learning in the country.

Accessibility

The University of Haifa offers various support services through the Accessibility and Learning Disabilities Department. The services offered include students with learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, medical, physical, sensory, cognitive, and emotional disabilities can receive counseling, academic and personal support, and accommodations for exams. The department also assists with mediation between students and academic departments to ensure a supportive educational environment. Course Offerings

Courses in the Study Abroad Program at the International School are academically accredited in accordance with the standards and criteria of North American and European universities. The semester will consist of four to six courses. Each course will be taught intensively for a period of two to three weeks, meeting for several hours daily.  In addition, the University of Haifa faculty may teach courses for the duration of the full semester. Students may not transfer foreign language or other non-law courses taken at the partner exchange school back to Miami Law for J.D. credit. If a student enrolls in such courses, they understand they are for self-interest only and will not be considered for transfer towards their J.D. degree.

  • Student Housing

    The University of Haifa International School offers on-campus and off-campus housing options. Prices vary depending on single/double options. Each room has its own private bathroom and shower, desk, closet, bed, and a/c. Each apartment has a shared kitchen for cooking and sitting. Off-campus options are recommended and include hostels and rental apartments. Please review their website for more information.

  • Cost of Attendance

    Students participating in Miami Law’s semester abroad program will pay regular full-time Miami Law tuition for the semester that they study abroad. During the semester abroad, University of Miami on-campus fees will not be charged.

    Students generally will not owe tuition to a partner exchange school while studying abroad through Miami Law’s International Exchange Programs, as long as they stay within the host institution’s credit limits (if applicable). Some administrative fees may apply.

  • Language of Instruction

    The language of instruction in the Study Abroad Program at the University of Haifa is English. However, the International School at the University of Haifa also offers a variety of language courses, including Hebrew and Arabic.

  • Requirements for Student Performance and Grading Methods

    The normal course load for a student studying in the Study Abroad Program of the International School for the fall or spring semester is 15 credits per semester, though 12 credits is the minimum and 18 credits is the maximum. The grading scale is as follows:

    Students also must comply with Miami Law’s International Exchange Policies & Procedures. Students should aim to take at least the equivalent of 11 Miami Law credits while studying abroad; they can earn a maximum of 14 Miami Law credits from a study abroad semester. Additional rules regarding eligible coursework and credit transfer back to Miami Law apply.

When to Apply

  • Fall Semester – Students must apply for nomination by February 1
  • Spring Semester – Students must apply for nomination by September 1
