In the exchange with Fudan Law School in Shanghai, China, two UM students complete a full semester of law courses in international law, legal history, commercial law, and other options. Credits taken at Fudan will count toward the UM JD degree.
Fudan University Law School (FLS), located in Shanghai, China, is one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. Established in 1914, it has a rich history of legal education and research. FLS is situated in the Yangpu District of Shanghai, one of China's most vibrant and dynamic cities. Shanghai is not only a global financial hub but also a center for international trade, commerce, and law. Being in Shanghai, Fudan Law School offers students unique opportunities to engage with the city's legal and business communities, providing a real-world context to their studies.

Exchange students may take courses for the FLS LL.M. program. Exchange students will have to register for courses by consulting with the Coordinator of Student Exchange Program directly. FLS cannot guarantee that all courses will be available for exchange students. You will receive a formal notice on course selection by the beginning of each semester.
Students may not transfer foreign language or other non-law courses taken at the partner exchange school back to Miami Law for J.D. credit. If a student enrolls in such courses, they understand they are for self-interest only and will not be considered for transfer towards their J.D. degree.
Fudan University Law School offers on-campus accommodations for exchange students. Students can book a room in Hadan Campus’ Fudan University Foreign Student Dormitory online. To book a room, please visit this link and click e-booking. Exchange students are also afforded the opportunity to live off-campus. Students who wish to live off-campus need to go to the local police station to go through the temporary accommodation registration procedure.
Students participating in Miami Law’s semester abroad program will pay regular full-time Miami Law tuition for the semester that they study abroad. During the semester abroad, University of Miami on-campus fees will not be charged. Students generally will not owe tuition to a partner exchange school while studying abroad through Miami Law’s International Exchange Programs, as long as they stay within the host institution’s credit limits (if applicable). Some administrative fees may apply. Miami Law exchange students pay their regular Miami Law J.D. tuition for the exchange semester to the University of Miami. The living expenses will vary depending on the exchange student preferences. These are some of the expected living expenses for attending FLS:
Courses open to exchange students are taught in English. It is recommended that all incoming students have a basic level of Chinese language ability.
The grading scale at Fudan University Law School is from 4.0 to 0. Courses are generally evaluated based on exams, essays, lecture diaries, or oral presentations. Exchange students can choose credits in accordance with their school requirements.
