Brendan Sullivan is a Lieutenant Commander and Judge Advocate for the U.S. Coast Guard’s Seventh District. He is responsible for providing legal advice to the District Commander and his staff, as well as subordinate units and partner commands located across the Seventh District’s 15,000 miles of coastline. He also serves as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida and regularly works with U.S. Attorney’s Offices located in Tampa, Miami, San Juan, and the U.S. Virgin Islands on the prosecutions involving illicit maritime activity. 

From 2009-2013 Mr. Sullivan was assigned to Coast Guard Headquarters where he served in the Office of Maritime and International Law and the Office of Legal and Defense Services.

After graduating from Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 2000 Lieutenant Commander Sullivan served as Second Mate aboard general cargo, military contract, and passenger vessels. He is also licensed to sail as a master of vessels 1600 gross registered tons or less.

In July 2009, Lieutenant Commander Sullivan transferred to the Coast Guard from the U.S. Navy where he served as Department Head and a Logistics Duty Officer for Military Sealift Command Office Kuwait from August 2008 to May 2009. His Navy positions also included tours as a navigation and seamanship instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy, officer in charge of an expeditionary command in the Republic of South Korea, and CENTCOM Staff Duty Officer.

Mr. Sullivan is a member of the Massachusetts and New York bars. His military decorations include the Coast Guard Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Coast Guard Meritorious Team Achievement Medal.
