Rodney P. Rawls is Associate Director, Academic Achievement Program. He graduated magna cum laude, earning a B.S. in Accounting from Hampton University. Upon graduation, he attended Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center, where he was involved as a Guardian Ad Litem, on Nova Law Review, and an active member of the Black Law Student Association. After graduating magna cum laude, earning his J.D. and becoming a member of the Florida Bar, he was accepted into the University of Florida Tax Program where he served as an Editor of the Florida Tax Review. Upon earning his LL.M. in Taxation, he merged his interest in accounting, law, and tax, by accepting a job as a Tax Consultant for Deloitte & Touche, LLP, in Atlanta, Georgia.

Over the next two years, he concentrated in the areas of Corporate Taxation and State and Local Taxation. He led several teams that researched sales tax exemptions related to specific medical supplies and filed numerous tax returns for major corporations. In 2002, he returned to South Florida and established Rodney P. Rawls, P.A., where he joined his father, Raleigh R. Rawls, in the practice of law, with a concentration in the areas of Tax, Probate, Guardianships, and Real Property.

He also served as lead counsel for MODCO on all Landlord-Tenant related issues. In 2005, he accepted an offer to work at his alma mater, Nova Southeastern University. While at Nova, he earned a Master’s degree in Instructional Technology and Distance Education; and over the years, he has created both in-class and online programs designed to improve law school and bar exam performance.

Since returning to South Florida, he has volunteered with numerous organizations and committees such as the Broward County Management & Efficiency Study Committee, the T.J. Reddick Bar Association, and Junior Achievement. He holds a strong interest in education-related matters, especially at the K-12 level, and enjoys spending time with his family and working with youth through his church.
