As a part of Law School Orientation, the law school hosts a Setting Up Services Day where new students can get acquainted with Miami Law, and meet and mingle with Student Ambassadors (2L and 3L students) who direct students and answer general questions. These 2L and 3L students also provide an ‘insider” tour of the School of Law and the University including: classrooms, administrative offices, the food court, and the bookstore. Services include laptop configuration and Cane Card pictures.

**Update Personal Information**
Students have a continuing obligation to update their records with the Law School. Before you arrive and once you have secured new housing, log into Canelink to check your information. Once you are logged in, follow these steps:
- Under Personal Information: Select Update E-Mail Address to update your preferred email address.
- Select the Green Button labeled Go to Student Center.
- Under Personal Information: Update your Permanent Address (if necessary), Local Address (used for mailing), and Cell Phone number.
Cane Card (ID Cards)
Your Student ID Card, called a "Cane Card", is used for many purposes around the law school and campus such as checking out library books, and gaining entrance to the Wellness Center. You will also receive student discounts at local vendors by showing your Cane Card. You can receive your Cane Card during Orientation. Students are encouraged to obtain their Cane Card prior to Orientation. The Cane Card office is located at the McKnight Building, 1st floor, 5807 Ponce De Leon Blvd. A valid photo I.D. will be required to obtain your Cane Card.

Health Insurance & Immunization Requirements
Health, Dental and Vision Insurance
The University sponsors health, dental and vision Insurance via United HealthCare. Insurance Rates and information for the upcoming academic year are generally available by June 1st. The most up to date Health insurance plan information can be viewed here and rates can be viewed here. Dental and vision insurance information can be viewed here.
The University requires that all students have health insurance while in law school (dental and vision are not required). Should a student already have adequate alternative coverage, he or she must waive the University sponsored health insurance plan by logging on to studentcenter.uhcsr.com. Student Health Services has extended the insurance waiver deadline for incoming Law students through to September 1st. For any questions or concerns regarding this matter, students should contact Student Health Services directly at (305) 284-9100.
All students must submit an immunization form by August 22 to Student Health Services. Failure to comply with these immunization requirements prior to the beginning of your first semester will interfere with registration and a $50.00 late processing fee will be charged for any form received after the start of the semester. Upon completion, return the form to:
Parking permits are available for purchase in the summer. Incoming Law Students may purchase a 2018-19 parking permit starting in mid July by visiting Department of Parking & Transportation. An exact date will be annouced once it is available. You will need to log into your account by using your current CaneLink system username and password. You will need to know the make, model, and license plate number for the vehicle you are registering. The cost of your permit will be billed to your student account. Your parking permit will be mailed via USPS to the street or post office box address you specify when completing your online parking permit application. Permits will be mailed immediately after they are ordered. Parking permits are not available for purchase on campus. Wellness Center (Gym Membership)
Included in each student’s law school tuition and fees is a membership to the Wellness Center (UM’s Gym). Students can gain admittance to the Wellness Center by showing a Cane Card. Learn more about the Wellness Center.
E-mail/IT: Connecting to the Network
Miami Law’s IT experts will be on hand to help new students get connected to the Miami Law network and install printer drivers the week prior to the 2017 J.D. Orientation: July 31st through August 7th (Room F108). Our Information Technology team will show you how to get connected to our “SecureCanes” wireless network, set up your email account, and install printer drivers so that you are prepared for the first day of classes. The Service Desk is eager to answer any technology related questions throughout the summer to prepare students for arrival on campus.
Laptop Information & Configuration
Laptops are not required although not surprisingly, many if not most students arrive at law school with laptops. Click here to find computer information and recommendations. Join Miami Law’s Information Technology team who will show how to get connected to the Wireless canes network, set up email accounts, and install printer drivers so that new students are prepared for classes to begin. Please bring a laptop.
