New Lawyers, Beaming, Take Oath of Admission to Florida Bar

More than 100 exultant Miami Law graduates, their long academic labors successfully accomplished, were sworn in Wednesday as members of the Florida Bar in a ceremony – both lighthearted and compellingly serious – at Maurice Gusman Concert Hall.

The students, at the behest of Justice R. Fred Lewis of the Florida Supreme Court, a fellow alumnus, stood on stage and faced their families and friends in the audience to take the oath. At its conclusion, applause thundered through the auditorium.

As they left the stage, Justice Lewis happily shook almost every new lawyer's hand, and exhorted them, among other things, to go out and change the world, and to be a credit "to this great university."
