Miami Law students were able to observe the judicial process in action as a panel of Third District Court of Appeal judges held oral arguments at the Storer Auditorium on the Coral Gables campus.
Throughout the morning of Friday, February 11, a total of five civil and criminal cases were held.
"The Third DCA's visit brings the courtroom to the classroom, giving students a unique opportunity to experience advocacy in real time," said Rosario Lozada Schrier, director of the Legal Communication and Research Skills program.
It was a unique opportunity for the first-year students who were able to watch seasoned advocates argue before a panel of three judges. After the arguments, the panel invited questions from the students. In the dialogue that followed, the judges emphasized the importance of integrity, preparation, and professionalism. The timing of the Third DCA's visit couldn't have been better because students are currently practicing effective oral argument strategies in their Legal Communication and Research Skills classes.
