J.D. Seat Deposit Payment and Refund Information

Acceptance to an offer of admission to the University of Miami School of Law must be confirmed with the Admitted Student Decision Form and a seat deposit of $1,000, which will be applied toward fall and spring semester fees. In most cases, this deposit may be made in two $500 payments according to the deadlines found in each student’s acceptance letter. In some cases, the entire $1,000 seat deposit will be due at once (if applicable, this would be outlined in the acceptance letter). 

Seat Deposit Deadlines

Deposit deadlines are indicated in each student's acceptance letter, and may also be available through LSAC’s ASO account.

1st $500 deposit - deposit due date found in acceptance letter / non-refundable
2nd $500 deposit - deposit due date found in acceptance letter / partially refundable; partial refund of second $500 seat deposit is based upon the following schedule:

Note that if there is an outstanding balance from a previous term at the University of Miami, all deposit funds will go toward payment of the outstanding balance. In such cases, there may not be a refund.

Seat Deposit Submission

When the Admitted Student Decision Form is submitted, admitted students will be directed to the CaneLink portal to complete the seat deposit payment. CaneLink sign-on instructions were included with the acceptance letter. Please note that it takes 24 hours for CaneLink to recognize a new student account and give clearance to the online payment portal  – please plan accordingly. Payment by mail, express post or any other form outside the CaneLink payment portal are not accepted. It is the School's policy to cancel the acceptance of an applicant who does not make the tuition deposit payment by the designated dates.

 Transfer Applicants (Second Year and LLM-Transfers)

Acceptance to an offer of admission to the University of Miami School of Law must be confirmed with a seat deposit of $1,000 which will be applied towards fall and spring semester fees. Please note that only $300 of this deposit is refundable if requested at least 10 business days before the start of the entering semester. Deposit deadlines and the seat deposit submission process were outlined on in the letter of acceptance.

 Visiting Applicants

 Master of Law (LL.M.) Program Applicants
