Alyssa Dragnich earned a B.A. in political science with distinction from Duke University and a J.D. from the University of Chicago School of Law, where she was also Articles Editor of the Chicago Journal of International Law. Following law school, Professor Dragnich joined the firm of Steptoe & Johnson LLP in Washington, D.C. Her practice focused primarily on the regulation of crude oil and petroleum products pipelines before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. She was also active in pro bono efforts, successfully obtaining grants of political asylum for clients from Rwanda and Cameroon, as well as securing Social Security disability benefits for a third client.
Professor Dragnich joined the University of Miami in 2010. She teaches Legal Communication & Research Skills, Introduction to Academic Writing, and Writing & Editing for Lawyers. She is an active member of both the Association of Legal Writing Directors and the Legal Writing Institute (LWI). She has served on major committees of both organizations and presents at legal writing conferences around the country. She organized LWI conferences at Miami Law in 2011 and 2014.
