University of Los Andes School of Law Colombian Exchange Program

Miami Law offers a semester exchange opportunity with the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. This exchange enables two Miami Law JD students the opportunity to complete a full semester of courses at the University of Los Andes, which is a leading research institution in Colombia. Most courses are taught in Spanish.

About the University of Los Andes

This university is a private, non-denominational university. It is the fourth best university in South America according to the QS Ranking for Latin America. The institution is about the same size as the University of Miami with 13,000 undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, and has a similar number of schools: Management, Architecture & Design, Arts and Humanities, Science, Social Sciences, Law, Economics, Engineering and Medicine.

About Bogotá

Bogotá is the capital and largest city of Colombia with a population of approxImately 8 million. It is a cosmopolitan city with many cultural attractions and venues. Located in the center of the country, Declared World Book Capital by UNESCO and Iberoamerican Capital of Culture by the UCCI, Bogotá has become one of the most important cities of the continent, with public spaces such as plazas, streets and modern avenues. Its mass transit system is considered one of the most important in Latin America and a model for transportation systems in the country and the continent. The city has the world’s largest bicycling network –the Ciclovía, which covers close to 300 kilometers.

Tuition, Fees, Social Events & Housing

  • Incoming exchange students: pay tuition to their home school, and required student health insurance and University fees to the University of Miami.
  • Outgoing Miami Law students: pay tuition and other required fees to the University of Miami School of Law. Miami Law students pay no tuition or fees to the partner school except for certain social events and discretionary fees.

Application

Miami Law selects the two most qualified students to propose to University of Los Andes each academic year. University of Los Andes makes the final decision on admission. To apply, please send:

  • A short letter (1-2 pages) stating the reasons for interest;
  • A listing of significant international experience (growing up in a foreign country, work in the Peace Corps, the military or business, studying for a semester or more abroad), and/or extensive academic training in international relations, international business, area studies, or related fields;
  • A copy of one’s CV; and
  • Law school GPA and grades in relevant courses, or a copy of law school transcript.
