Exchange Program with University College Dublin Law School

The University College Dublin, founded in 1854, is Ireland's largest university and considered to be one of the world's top 100 universities. 

It has almost 25,000 students across all of its programs with graduate students comprising a third of the study body and international students from more than 120 countries making up 20% of the student population. It is an institution known for both research and innovation and offers a diverse curriculum. The Law School at UCD is located on the main Belfield campus in Roebuck Castle. There are more than 900 students studying at the undergraduate level and 200 students at the graduate level in the Law School.

About Dublin

Dublin is the capital and largest city of Ireland. It is a historical and contemporary cultural center for the country as well as a modern center of education, the arts, administration, economy and industry. With a population of more than 1 million residents, it also boasts having the most green space of any European capital city. It benefits from mild temperatures and the least amount of rainfall in Ireland. The city is the primary education center in the country housing three universities and many other higher education institutions. It has benefited from a long literary history, and a currently very active arts scene. Dublin is a place both cosmopolitan and easy to navigate making it a popular international destination.

Program Specifics

  • This one-semester exchange opportunity exists for up to four upper level J.D. students during either the fall or spring terms.
  • Fall semester runs from early September to the third week of December; and spring semester extends from mid-January to mid-May.
  • Course credits earned at the UCD Law School count toward the J.D. degree.

Tuition, Fees, Social Events & Housing

  • Incoming exchange students: pay tuition to their home school, and required student health insurance and University fees to the University of Miami.
  • Outgoing Miami Law students: pay tuition and other required fees to the University of Miami School of Law. Miami Law students pay no tuition or fees to the partner school except for certain social events and discretionary fees.

Please provide the following information by March 1st for fall semester and by October 1st for spring semester:

  • A short letter (1-2 pages) stating the reasons for interest;
  • A listing of significant international experience (growing up in a foreign country, work in the Peace Corps, the military or business, studying for a semester or more abroad), and/or extensive academic training in international relations, international business, area studies, or related fields;
  • A copy of one’s CV; and
  • Law school GPA and grades in relevant courses, or a copy of law school transcript.
