Office of Inclusion and Belonging

The Office of Inclusion and Belonging (OIB) is committed to fostering a learning community where mutual respect and inclusive practice is embedded into every facet of the law school experience. We strive to cultivate an inclusive environment where students, faculty and staff are prepared to engage with diverse perspectives, to grow through respectful dialogue and develop into empathetic leaders while feeling valued and empowered.

Our priorities include:

  • Promoting open dialogue and respectful engagement: We encourage open conversations where all voices are heard and respected.
  • Fostering a sense of belonging: We ensure that everyone feels part of a vibrant and welcoming community.
  • Facilitating empathy and humanity: Our initiatives aim to build understanding and compassion among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Developing inclusive leadership skills: We prepare our students to lead with empathy and inclusivity in their future legal careers.

The first step of this process is to complete a request for accommodations form, which can be found here. Please download and complete the form and send it to us via email at access@law.miami.edu. Once your request has been received, you will be contacted via email with the following steps, including providing supporting documentation of your diagnosis. For information on what specific documentation is required, you can access the University's Documentation Guidelines.

Our students have the benefit of a diverse student population who come from myriad races, ethnicities, sexual and gender identities, economic backgrounds, and life experiences to help inform them and support our commitment to diversity. Miami Law’s 55+ extracurricular student-run organizations and publications reflect this diversity and provide programming and events focused on mentorship, networking, and law school success.

The Miami Law community works closely with and provides support to student organizations that are committed to diversity. Some of these organizations include: Black Law Students Association; First Generation Law Association; Hispanic Law Students Association; Miami Law Women; Older Wiser Law Students; OUTLaw; and South West Asian and North African Law Students Association. Many of these student organizations also provide programming and events focused on mentorship, networking, and law school success.

Miami Law has a number of policies and procedures in place to protect against discrimination in all its forms. These links offer information and support for our community members.

Nondiscrimination Policy

It is the policy of the University of Miami School of Law that no person within the jurisdiction thereof shall, on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, age, disability, military status, veteran status, genetic information, or any other protected factor be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination or harassment (including all forms of sexual harassment and sexual violence) under any program or activity of the University, regardless of whether such program or activity occurs on-campus or off-campus. Retaliation against an individual who files a complaint of discrimination opposes a policy/procedure/practice because he/she believes it to be discriminatory or participates in the investigation of a discrimination complaint is prohibited.
