Computer Access/ Laptops

From Madrid to Fuengirola computer access will be available for a fee through internet cafés located in some of the hotels and within the cities.  Bringing laptops/notebooks are generally discouraged for various reasons, i.e., cumbersome, risk of being lost or stolen, accessibility of hookups, etc.

In Barcelona a computer room is located at RESA residence hall.  Each apartment is equipped with a telephone and a computer point for free access to the internet.

Accommodations and Classroom Locations

In Madrid, Salamanca, Lisbon, Seville, Cordoba, Granada and Fuengirola housing will be at Superior Tourist Class hotels.  Accommodations are twin share.  All hotel rooms have private facilities.  With the exception of Hotel PYR Fuengirola, breakfast is included daily. Travel arrangements from Madrid to Fuengirola are being arranged by Contiki Holidays, the world’s largest travel company for 18 to 35 years old. Transportation will be by air-conditioned coach.  A Contiki Tour Manager will accompany the Tour of Spain and Portugal from departure in Madrid until arrival in Fuengirola.  Classes will be held in air-conditioned hotel meeting rooms, classroom seating.

Housing accommodations are not included during the break period, June 29-July 7, 2007, inclusive. Housing in Barcelona will be in single occupancy apartments arranged through RESA, the residence halls for Universitat Pompeu Fabra and operator of over 40 university residence halls throughout Europe.  The residence self-contained apartments are located extremely close to where classes will be taught.  Each apartment is equipped with an individual bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, direct telephone and access to all common services, i.e., study rooms, gym, TV and video room, game room and laundry room in the hall of residences.  The RESA residence halls are located near the Mediterranean and benefit from the ocean breeze.  Student apartments, like most residences in Barcelona, are not air-conditioned.  Classes will be held in air-conditioned classrooms at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Roommates

For 19 nights from Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, through Fuengirola, including overnight stops in Salamanca, Cordoba, and Granada students, will share twin rooms at Superior Tourist Class hotels with private facilities.  Students may elect to share accommodations provided both parties make the same request.  Given the number of days involved, students are advised to strongly consider whether they would like to room with someone they know rather than be randomly assigned a roommate.

Transportation

Students attending the Tour of Spain and Portugal are expected to make their own travel arrangements to Madrid to arrive on Sunday, June 10th.  Early booking is essential as Spain is a very popular tourist destination. Additionally, students not participating in the Italy Optional Trip during the break period from June 29 through July 8, 2007 are expected to make their own travel arrangements for transportation to Barcelona arriving on Sunday, July 8th, to commence first day of classes the next morning.  Be sure to also include in your travel arrangements departure from Barcelona at program’s end.
