Computer Access/ Laptops
From Athens to Rome, computer access will be available for a fee through internet cafés located in the hotels and/or the various cities. Bringing laptops/notebooks are generally discouraged for various reasons, i.e., cumbersome, risk of being lost or stolen, accessibility of hookups, etc.
In Barcelona a computer room is located at RESA residence hall. Each apartment is equipped with a telephone and a computer point for free access to the internet.
Accommodations and Classroom Locations
Athens, Mykonos, and Corfu housing will be at Superior Tourist Class hotels. Athens and Corfu accommodation is twin share. Mykonos housing is in multi-share (triple). All hotel rooms have private facilities and breakfast is included daily. In Mykonos brunch and an evening meal is included daily at the Contiki Mykonos Resort. In addition, accommodations will be in 4-berth inside cabins on the overnight ferry from Corfu to Bari. Travel arrangements from Athens to Rome are arranged by Contiki Holidays, the world’s largest travel company for 18-35 year olds. Transportation will be by airconditioned coach. Contiki Tour Managers will accompany the Mediterranean Experience from departure in Athens until arrival in Rome. Housing accommodations are not included during the break period, June 29 to July 8, 2007. Classes will be held in air-conditioned hotel meeting rooms, classroom seating.
Housing in Barcelona will be in single occupancy apartments arranged through RESA, the residence halls for Universitat Pompeu Fabra and operator of over 40 university residence halls throughout Europe. The residence self-contained apartments are located extremely close to where classes will be taught. Each apartment is equipped with an individual bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen, direct telephone and access to all common services, i.e., study rooms, gym, TV and video room, game room and laundry room in the hall of residences. The RESA residence halls are located near the Mediterranean and benefit from the ocean breeze. Student apartments, like most residences in Barcelona, are not air-conditioned. Classes will be held in air-conditioned classrooms at Universitat Pompeu Fabra.
Roommates
For 19 nights in Athens/Mykonos/Delphi/ Olympia/Corfu in Greece and Sorrento/Rome outskirts in Italy students will share twin rooms and multi-share (triple) rooms at Superior Tourist Class hotels with private facilities. On the overnight ferry from Corfu to Bari, students will share accommodations in 4-berth inside cabins with private facilities. Students may elect to share accommodations provided both parties make the same request. Given the number of days involved, students are advised to strongly consider whether they would like to room with someone they know rather than be randomly assigned a roommate(s).
Transportation
Students attending the Mediterranean Experience are expected to make their own arrangements for transportation to Athens to arrive on Sunday, June 10. Early booking is essential as Athens is a very popular tourist destination. Additionally, students not participating in the Italy Optional Trip during the Break Period from June 29 through July 8, 2007 are expected to make their own arrangements for transportation to Barcelona. Be sure to include in your travel arrangements departure from Barcelona for return to the U.S. at program’s end. |
