The Faculty

Josep Ferrer is Professor of  Private Law at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona. He holds a law degree from the Universitat of Barcelona.  He has been visiting scholar at Yale University, University of Bologna (Italy) and University of Leuven (Belgium), as well as a member of the drafting committee of the Catalan civil code and of the International Society of Family Law.  Teaching and research subjects include Contracts, Family Law and Comparative Law.

Stephen K. Halpert, Professor of Law at the University of Miami School of Law, received A.B. and J.D. degrees from Harvard University and was a Harvard Scholar at Emmanuel College, Cambridge University.  Prior to joining the faculty, Professor Halpert practiced corporate and securities law with the New York-based law firm of Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom.  While on leave from the School in 1983-4, Professor Halpert served as Senior Staff Economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers.  He has taught primarily in the area of business and finance, including courses on business associations, securities regulation, bankruptcy and insurance. Professor Halpert has been a consultant and expert for the United States Department of Justice, the National Association of Securities Dealers and numerous major investment firms and broker-dealers, and written in the area of banking and financial products.

Marisa Iglesias is Professor of Legal Philosophy at Universitat Pompeu Fabra Barcelona.  She holds a law degree from the Universitat de Barcelona (1990), and a Ph.D. in law from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (1997).  She has been a visiting scholar at the European Humanities University of Minsk (Belarus), Oxford University (Balliol College), the Global Law School of New York University, and the Law Faculty of Puerto Rico University.  She has worked several times as expert-evaluator for the European Commission, and has briefly practiced law as substitute judge.  Most of her research and publications focus on legal epistemology and theories of interpretation.  Her main publication in those fields is the book Facing Judicial Discretion. Legal Knowledge and Right Answers Revisited,

Laurence (Lonny) M. Rose, Professor of Law at the University Miami, received a B.A. in 1969 from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, and in 1972 a J.D. from New York University. Professor Rose was law clerk to Judge James S. Holden of the United States District Court for the district of Vermont.  He is the President for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and has taught advocacy skills throughout the world.  Professor Rose is the Director of the University of Miami’s Litigation Skills Program and has written extensively in the areas of trial advocacy, evidence and civil procedure.

José Ramón Salelles, is Professor of Commercial Law at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra of Barcelona (1996).  He holds an SJD from the University of Bologna, Italy (1993), and has been visiting researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property, Antitrust, and Tax Law of Munich, Germany (1994), and at Harvard Law School, Cambridge (1998).  He has been justice of the Court of Appeals of Barcelona (1999-2004), and since 2005 is lawyer of counsel of the Spanish law firm Uría Menéndez.  Teaching and research subjects include Corporate Law, bankruptcy, Contracts and Copyright, areas in which he has published extensively.
