The Academic Program
Students participating in the Mediterranean Experience will take one required 2-credit course in Athens, Mykonos and Corfu from June 10-29 and two 2-credit courses from an offering of four courses in Barcelona from July 9-Aug.1. Orientation and first day of classes will be conducted in Athens on the morning of Monday, June 12, 2007. Nine classes, eight of 155 minutes and the last class of 160 minutes duration are scheduled in total between June 11 and June 24, 2007. The examination will be held the next day, Monday, June 25, 2007. Upon return of the ten-day break period, between June 29 through July 8, all students will arrive in Barcelona and check into the RESA residential hall. Classes will be conducted in classrooms of the law school of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF). Four courses, each two credits will be taught: Comparative & International Investment Finance or Comparative Trends in Family Law, and Comparative Legal Theory: Civil vs. Common Law, or International Commercial Contracts. Students must enroll in two of the four courses. An Organizational Meeting and Plenary Lecture Session will be conducted on Monday, July 9, followed by the first day of classes. Thirteen additional classes, each of 100 minutes duration are scheduled in total between July 10 and July 27. Saturday, July 28, and Sunday, July 29, are reading days. Examinations will be held Monday, July 30, and Tuesday, July 31, 2007.
All courses comply with the standards of the American Bar Association and the Association of American Law Schools. Students should contact their present law school regarding the possibility of accelerated graduation, and, where appropriate, converting semester credits to a quarter system. Upon completion of the 2007 Mediterranean Experience study abroad program an official transcript from the University of Miami will be mailed to the student’s law school and confirmation will be mailed to the student’s present address. The University of Miami School of Law employs an A, B+, B, C+, C, C-, D, and F grading system. The transferability of credits will be determined by the student’s present law school. Inquiry should be made in advance of application.
Three-day Weekend Break
In Barcelona during the second half of the Mediterranean Experience study abroad program, a three-day weekend break is provided from Friday, July 20, through Sunday, July 22, to allow students self-directed travel to explore the south of France, the Pyrenees, etc., on their own.
End of Term Party
The 2007 Mediterranean Experience concludes with an end of term party in Barcelona; details to be announced later.
