Student Loans/ Financial Aid
All Miami students eligible for student loans may apply through the Financial Aid Office of the University of Miami School of Law. Applications for financial aid must be completed and submitted to the University of Miami Law School Financial Aid office by the end of March 2007.
The financial aid budget available for the 2007 London Summer Program is adequate to meet all your financial needs associated with your summer study of law abroad but it is not generous. In addition to the federally regulated Stafford loan, students can also apply for a Graduate Plus loan, which together fund the full cost of the program. The Graduate Plus loan is also a guaranteed federally regulated loan employing the same processing system as the Stafford loan. Both loans should be applied for at the same time, if needed.
All visiting students should apply early through their home school and check with their financial aid office regarding processing of consortium agreements, loans, and check disbursements of funds. Please liaison with our Financial Aid Office, telephone (305) 284-3115, fax (305) 284-5868, or email: finaid@law.miami.edu to ensure processing of your funds. All registration fees, tuition and housing costs must be paid for by the time the program starts.
Switching Programs
All students are required to choose one Summer Abroad Program. Due to considerations involving logistics, planning preparation, course materials, deposits, etc., there will be no program switching between programs after the March 30th deadline.
Early Arrival
Unless you’ve made previous housing arrangements, it is not necessary to arrive earlier than the London Summer Program commencement date, Sunday, June 10, 2007. There are no pre-night stays at Frances Gardner House residential hall. Pre-night stays in single room accommodations at your own expense at hotels in London can be costly.
Hotel Bookings
All hotel arrangements provided by Contiki Holidays are subject to availability. If required, hotels of similar quality will be substituted.
Enrollment
Enrollment in the 2007 London Summer Program is limited. Students will be accepted on a deposits received, first-come, first-serve basis.
Cancellation or Termination of Program
The 2007 London Summer Program is being offered subject to change or cancellation by the University of Miami School of Law depending on sufficient enrollment and availability of faculty members. If cancellation of the 2007 London Summer Program occurs after deposit has been paid, the program director will use his best efforts to make arrangements for each student enrolled to attend a similar program, if the student so desires. If the 2007 London Summer Program is cancelled for any reason, all monies advanced by the student will be refunded within twenty-one days after the date of cancellation.
All courses are being offered subject to change or cancellation by the University of Miami School of Law depending on sufficient enrollment and availability of faculty members.
Payment Schedule
A non-refundable registration fee of $250 and a tuition deposit of $300, the latter to be credited against Tuition, Activities Fee, and Related Expenses of $3,150, must be received with the application by March 30, 2007. For those students not applying for financial aid, there will be two installments for the remaining cost of the program of $6,000 (amount due after the registration fee and initial $300 tuition deposit). The first installment in the amount of $3,000 must be received by April 13, 2007. The second installment, i.e., final payment, in the amount of $3,000 must be received by May 18, 2007. Payments are to be made by check or money order payable to “University of Miami School of Law”.
Payments are deferred for students applying for financial aid until loan checks become available (around early June) at which time full payment for tuition and housing must be made by all participants.
Students are able to make payments with their credit card on the EASY system. The University of Miami charges a fee of 2.5% on the amount processed for this service. This fee applies to all credit card payments for tuition and housing. Payments are deferred for students applying for financial aid until loan checks become available (around early June) at which time full payment must be made.
Applications for financial aid must be fully completed before the end of March to ensure timely disbursements of funds. All visiting students will be responsible to ensure that financial aid disbursements for tuition and housing from their home school are paid to the University of Miami School of Law before commencement of the 2007 London Summer Program. There will be a $100 penalty fee for late payment.
Payments received will be refundable only if an applicant is for any reason refused admission or if a course offering is changed or cancelled.
All cancellations must be made in writing via email at summerabroad@law.miami.edu or by fax to our Summer Abroad Programs Office at (305) 284-6506.
