Accommodations

The educational experience in London will be steeped in legal tradition, but the accommodations will feature all the comforts and convenience of contemporary London. Students will reside at Frances Gardner House UCL residence hall self-catering flats of up to eight persons.

This recently built residence is comprised of single en suite rooms, arranged as cluster flats, all with their own fully-equipped kitchen/dining area. Each bedroom has its own bathroom, telephone, and computer data point. This residence is located just to the rear of Langton Close, so students at Frances Gardner House can easily access facilities at Langton Close, which include a large TV room, a small study room used during the day, vending machines and a coin-operated laundry room.

The residential hall is within an approximately 20-minute walking distance to the UCL Faculty of Laws building where classes will be conducted.

Housing accommodations are not included during the break period, June 29 through July 7 nclusive. Storage for excess baggage during the break period will be provided.  If you plan to remain in London during that time, you must make prior arrangements with UCL Frances Gardner House upon your arrival in London. Prior arrangements for self-directed travel during the break period are recommended.

Computer Access

Computer clusters located at UCL Faculty of Laws will be available for student use.  In addition computer clusters located at Langton Close, just to the rear of Frances Gardner House residence hall will also be available.  Students may access computer points located in each bedroom of Frances Gardner House self-catered flats at additional expense.

Roommates

For the 4-day weekend to Paris and the 3-day weekend to the English Countryside students will share twin rooms at superior tourist class hotels with private facilities.  Students may elect to share accommodations provided both parties make the same request.

Students will share eight bedroom cluster flats at Frances Gardner House during the program. Students should also consider whether they would like to room with persons they know rather than be randomly assigned same sex roommates.  Every effort is made to accommodate student roommate requests.  However, due to late cancellations and no-shows the assignment of roommates is subject to change without notice.

Transportation

Students attending the 2007 London Summer Program are expected to make their own arrangements for transportation to England (departing the U.S. on Saturday evening) to arrive on Sunday, June 10, at either Heathrow (preferred) or Gatwick International Airports. Early booking is essential as London is a very popular tourist destination. Students not participating in the Italy Optional Trip during the Break Period from June 29-July 8, 2007, are expected to make their own travel arrangements for self-directed travel.  Additionally, students must make their own arrangements for air travel to Rome from London and from Venice to London in order to participate in the Italy Optional Trip exclusively arranged by Contiki Holidays.  Be sure to include in your travel arrangements departure from London at program’s end.
