Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board Information
Welcome to the website of the University of Miami School of Law’s Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board. As the oldest, largest, and most prestigious advocacy program at UM Law, the Board prides itself in recruiting and training some of the finest oral and written advocates in the country. In furtherance of this goal, as an honorary organization the Board limits its membership to only the top 7% of first and second year classes. In addition to academic credentials, membership on the Board is primarily based on performance in the John T. Gaubatz 1L competition, an event which regularly attracts over 250 first year students in the spring semester of each year.
This year, in addition to building on this legacy of interschool achievement, the Board will host the annual Mock Trial, Negotiation, fall and spring C. Clyde Atkins Advanced Moot Court competitions, as well as the Gaubatz 1L competition.
The Board has also restructured our 1L Advising Program. For the first time ever, we are hosting workshops to introduce 1L students to appellate advocacy. This open-forum workshop teaches students important brief writing skills and how to prepare a successful oral argument. These workshops were added to the advising program to help expose students to written and oral advocacy and to better prepare them for their graded rounds with their LRW professors.
With the support of the University of Miami School of Law as well as local and national alumni, the Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board will continue to encourage excellence in oral and written advocacy on campus and around the nation.
Sincerely,
Daniel J. Poterek
