The Haitian State: Creating Sustainability Going Forward
Date: March 30 at 9:00 a.m.
The 2012 IALR Roundtable will focus on the state of Haiti and the reasonableness of creating sustainability going into the future. The State has been in complete disarray for decades, with an end nowhere in sight. To add to the problems, on January 12, 2010, the country was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake. This earthquake caused the deaths of an estimated three hundred thousand citizens and left approximately one million homeless.
This Roundtable will, in a scholarly manner, (1) assess the current situation in Haiti through both a political and judicial examination; (2) determine the viability of the state going forward; and (3) if it is determined there is long term viability for the state, assess the proper next steps to make that chance a reality.
