Joshua Bosin:
Summer Internship at MTV Networks in New York

October 2003

Joshua Bosin was in New York for the summer, interning for the Business and Legal Affairs Division of VH1: Music First. "It was a cool place to work. The people I worked with were incredibly willing to teach and to share the workload. From the first day, I was writing contracts. When I arrived, Divas Duets had just aired and I was given the assignment of closing the remaining contracts."

While the internship provided Joshua with exposure to a wide array of topics in entertainment law, he worked primarily with graphic/audio agreements and talent agreements for the network's shows. One of the agreements he worked on was for VH1's new logo. "I also drafted some acquisition agreements, which are unique to television. Basically they pertain to buying the rights for television shows and films either already released or in development."

Joshua hopes this experience will be another step down the path toward a career in entertainment law. He had a similar experience in the entertainment profession the previous summer when he interned in the Business & Legal Affairs Department for the Atlantic Recording Corporation, a subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Joshua's hometown is Indianapolis. He graduated with a dual degree in political science and psychology from the University of North Carolina's Honors Program. Before starting college, he was heavily involved in acting, but this passion gave way to a new interest he discovered at Chapel Hill, student government. Joshua was a member of the Student Supreme Court, the Committee on Student Conduct, and the vice chair of the Undergraduate Honor Court. College was also the culmination of twelve years of studying French. His junior year, he studied French language and culture at the Sorbonne.

Now in his second year at Miami, Joshua finds himself involved in over half a dozen extracurricular activities, but his main concentrations this year will be the Moot Court Board and the Inter-American Law Review. "The initial adjustment to law school and to living in a new city was challenging, but I think I had a successful first year because I was able to take this uncertain situation and make the most of the opportunities around me. The key was getting involved in the extracurricular activities and projects."
