Josh Klein: Summer Internship in Paris
Shortly after completing his first semester of law school, Josh Klein received word that he was selected for the State Department's summer internship program. While he has not yet selected the track in which he will work, he has received confirmation that he will be placed with the U.S. Embassy in Paris.
Josh was a double major in French and European history at the University of Pennsylvania. He studied abroad during his junior year at the American University Center of Provence in Aix-en-Provence, France. While at Penn, he completed summer internships with the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations and with the Foreign Policy Research Institute in Philadelphia. Josh was very active on-campus during his undergraduate years and he has the accolades to show for his involvement. During his senior year, he was elected class president, selected to the Sphinx Senior Honor Society, Penn's oldest honor society, and received Penn's prestigious Spoon Award, given to the outstanding male senior. He was also a wrestler on the varsity wrestling team until an injury in his sophomore season. After the injury, he served as the team manager for the remainder of his time at Penn.
After graduating from college in 2002, Josh took two years off before continuing his education in law school. The first year was spent in Lyon, France, where he worked as an English teacher in two French public primary schools. The second year was spent in his hometown of Wilmington, Delaware working as a paralegal in the bankruptcy department of Young Conaway Stargatt & Taylor, LLP.
Josh participated in the James Weldon Johnson/Robert H. Waters Summer Institute prior to the start of fall classes and now that he has successfully completed his first semester and lined up his summer job, he plans on becoming more involved in the student organizations. "The material we cover in our first-year classes is definitely challenging, but it's also interesting. I don't find myself getting stressed out too much. Law school is not the hostile, competitive environment that many imagine it to be. For the most part everyone participates in class and students get together with their classmates to prepare for classes and exams."
Josh has not had much free time since moving to Miami, but he recently purchased a new surfboard that he is looking forward to breaking in and next year he plans on auditing some French classes to keep his language skills sharp. In addition to sports and foreign languages, his other hobbies include enology, cooking, and traveling abroad.
