Doug Wolfe will be in West Palm Beach this summer to clerk for the insurance defense firm, Powers, McNalis, & Torres. Doug will be mostly involved with insurance defense, but may also gain some exposure to plaintiff representation. The job will be Doug's first professional opportunity to feel out this area of interest. "That's what this summer is really about - seeing if this is the right area for me. I like the fact that insurance cases are not specific to one legal area. The variety of insurance claims seems so endless that it would always keep the work interesting." The young firm of about twenty attorneys also appears to be a good match with Doug's friendly, easy-going disposition.
Doug's hometown is Chicago, Illinois. While Chicago was not an easy city for him to leave, the tropical weather is convincing him to stay in South Florida after completing his law degree. He graduated from DePaul University in three years with a degree in finance. During the year between undergraduate and law school, Doug backpacked Europe and then moved to Miami last spring to work as a paralegal in a Coral Gables law firm before starting law school in August.
During his first year of law school, Doug founded the European Union Law Society and he has been extremely active as a student ambassador for the Admissions and Recruiting Office. He is a member of the Society of Bar and Gavel, the Wrongful Convictions Project, the Maritime Law Society, and H.O.P.E. (Helping Others through Pro Bono Efforts). "This past academic year has been the most exciting, constructive, and intellectually stimulating year of my life. During orientation last year, I learned the value of serving others and I've participated in over fifty hours of community service this year." Based on his performance in the classroom and his community service record, Doug was recently awarded a scholarship for his second and third years of law school. He'll kick off his second year as the social events chairperson for the new students' orientation in August.
