TRANSFER APPLICANTS
To be considered: "B" average or better or top 20 percent of 1L class at an ABA-accredited law school.
Maximum 32 credits accepted for transfer (first year equivalent).
JURIS DOCTOR (J.D.) REQUIREMENTS at UM Law
Three year program (2.5 years with summers); 88 credit hours.
Full-time students register for 16 credits each semester of their first year and a minimum of 12 credit Hours each semester thereafter.
A cumulative average of 2.0 or above is required for the J.D.
Over 180 courses, seminars or workshops are typically offered to JD students throughout the year.

One of the largest and best-funded legal research libraries in the U.S.
Special collections in taxation, international and foreign law, estate planning and ocean law.
The Latin American and Caribbean law collections are one of the richest in the country.
The Library also houses the Everglades Litigation Collection and papers of Soia Mentschikoff.
The Library's full-time staff of 28, including 13 professional librarians of whom six have law degrees, provide a high level of service.
Law students also have access to the UM Richter Library (next to the law school) and all UM libraries.
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
The Law School has approximately 35 student organizations. They are active in bringing guest speakers to campus, producing scholarly journals, organizing community service activities etc.
Miami offers 5 journals: The University of Miami Law Review; Inter-American Law Review; International and Comparative Law Review; Business Law Journal; Psychology, Public Policy and Law Review.

Students choose one program from each segment. The Law School also offers a short-term 3-credit workshop with the University of Leipzig, Germany which meets in Miami in the winter and Leipzig in the spring.

CAREER PLANNING CENTER
One of the few law schools (if not the only one) in the country to have 8 attorneys working in its career center (5 full-time).
The CPC assists students in finding summer employment, employment during the 2nd and 3rd years (20 hours maximum), and employment after graduation with continuing service to alumni.
The placement rate of our graduates has matched or exceeded the national rate for the past 6 years. 93% for the Class of 2006 was employed within nine months of graduation.

The salary ranges of Miami's 2006 graduates varied widely depending on the type of practice involved (private, business/industry, government, public interest, judicial clerkships, etc.), the size of the firm (from 2 attorney offices to 500+ attorneys), and the location. Salaries for the Class of 2006 ranged from $40,000 to $150,000.
