The Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board would like to congratulate Shannon Puopolo and Kristin Stastny, winners of the 2007 C. Clyde Atkins Fall Advanced Moot Court Competition.

The Final Round was presided by several distinguished and varied members of the local legal community including: the Honorable Laurel Isicoff, of the Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida; Harvey Sepler, University of Miami School of Law Adjunct Professor and Miami-Dade Assistant Public Defender in the Appellate Division; Graham Penn, a civil attorney for Bercow Radell & Fernandez; and Steven Yermish, Miami-Dade Assistant Public Defender in the Capital Litigation Division and Crawford v. Washington, 541 U.S. 36 (2004), expert.

The competition is the culmination of the Fall Advanced Moot Court Workshop that is coordinated by the Moot Court Board and co-taught by attorney Harvey Sepler, JD '84, and Vice-President Kiara Griggs. Competitors were evaluated by local attorneys based on their level of excellence in written and oral advocacy, through participation in oral arguments and submission of a written brief. The competition took place over two weeks and brought together over 100 local attorneys and 40 second-year students. Approximately 130 first year members of the University of Miami School of Law community packed the spectator seats to watch and learn from the oral argument presentations.

The Finalist team consisted of Brendan Herbert and Warren Zinn. Additionally, Dana Foley was awarded the honor of Best Oral Advocate, Shannon Puopolo and Kristen Stastny won Best Brief, and Brad Shapiro was named as the recipient of the Kurt Marmar Award, an honor given to the most well-rounded and sportsman-like competitor.

Invitations of candidacy for the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board have been extended to, and accepted by, Barbara Kibbey, Jordan Maglich, Shannon Puopolo, and Kristin Stastny.
