President Kevin E. Probst and Vice-President of the Spring Advanced Moot Court class Matt Simmons, along with the entire Charles C. Papy Jr. Moot Court Board would like to congratulate Lindsay Berman and Randi Spector, winners of the C. Clyde Atkins Spring Advanced Moot Court Competition.

This Moot Court competition is the culmination of the Spring Advanced Moot Court Seminar that is coordinated by the Moot Court Board and co-taught by attorney Harvey Sepler, J.D. ’84, and Vice-President Matt Simmons.  Competitors were evaluated by local attorneys based on their level of excellence in written and oral advocacy, through participation in oral arguments and submission of a written brief.

(L-R): Judge Jordan, Judge Moreno, Judge Lenard, Judge Gold,
2L Lindsay Berman, 2L Randi Spector, and Judge Huck

A distinguished panel consisting of U.S. District Court Judges Alan S. Gold, Adalberto J. Jordan, Paul C. Huck, Joan A. Lenard and Federico A. Moreno judged the final round.  In securing their victory, Randi Spector and Lindsay Berman engaged in a heated and closely fought oral argument against the team of Christopher Lomax and Sean Steele.

Additionally, Sarah King was awarded the honor of best oralist, the team of Ilana Tabacinic and Michelle Holmes wrote what was determined to be the best brief and Todd Allison was named as the recipient of the Kurt Marmar Award, an honor given to the most well-rounded and sportsman-like competitor.  Top students in the class may qualify to represent the Board and the law school in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy or National Bankruptcy Competition.  Further, invitations of candidacy for the Moot Court Board have been extended to, and accepted by, Lindsay Berman and Ryan Girnun.
