Coral Gables, FL (November 2, 2006) – The University of Miami School of Law has received a generous gift of $100,000 from Anne and Charles Papy, III, JD ‘77 to name the Moot Court Board in honor of their father, Charles Cay Papy, Jr., JD ’53. This naming will be formally announced at the Board’s Alumni Reception on November 2, 2006 in the Alma Jennings Foundation Student Lounge. It will be named the “Charles Cay Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board.
An expert in insurance litigation, Papy Jr. has tried well over 800 jury trials in his career. In the late 1950’s and early 60’s, he was the managing partner of his own law firm which was the third largest in Miami at that time. In 1972, Papy Jr. was elected to the Florida Legislature for a period of six years and served a two-year term as chairman of the House and Senate delegation from Miami-Dade County. “Dad understands insurance contracts and insurance law better than any person I have come across in the State of Florida,” states Papy III, a partner at Duane Morris LLP. In fact, Papy Jr. continues to actively practice law with his granddaughter, Jennifer Papy, JD’04, in his Coral Gables office.
“This is a wonderful gift in the name of an outstanding lawyer. It will be utilized to help support the many student competitions run by the student Moot Court Board,” said UM School of Law Dennis O. Lynch.
