ORLANDO, FL--The winning team and the winners of the best oralist and best brief awards at this year's Robert Orseck Memorial Moot Court Competition all are from the University of Miami School of Law.
The competition involved 16 teams--two from each of Florida's eight law schools.
Arguments by the two finalist teams--one team from the University of Miami and the other from Stetson College of Law--were presented Friday morning, June19, before six of the seven members of the Supreme Court of Florida.
The winning team was the University of Miami's Denise Brown and Bobbie-Lee Meloro, with Bobbie-Lee Meloro winning best oralist.
Michelle Gervais-Kullman and Alina Alonso, the other University of Miami team, won the best brief award, presented on Wednesday, following the preliminary round. The team was one of four (two from the University of Miami and two from Stetson) chosen to compete in Thursday's semifinal round.
Both University of Miami School of Law teams were coached by Harvey J. Sepler, assistant public defender for Miami-Dade County and adjunct faculty member of the Law School.
