Leipzig-Miami Seminar Fosters International Connections

(Posted: 01-28-13) The Leipzig-Miami Seminar, which is dedicated to increasing U.S.-German friendship and scholarly exchange, successfully completed its 13th year at Miami Law last week. The exchange program, begun in 2001 by Professors Richard Williamson and David Abraham, is a two-credit program in which students from the University of Leipzig and the University of Miami learn about each other's public and private international law systems and discuss recent legal problems on both sides of the Atlantic.

Constitutional Scholar Geoffrey Stone to Speak at John Hart Ely Lecture

(Posted: 01-28-13) University of Chicago Law Professor Geoffrey Stone, a leading constitutional scholar, will give the John Hart Ely Lecture at Miami Law on Feb. 4. Professor Stone, the Edward H. Levi Distinguished Service Professor at Chicago, plans to discuss "The Supreme Court and Conservative Judicial Activism."

Roe v. Wade Attorney to Present Lecture on Women as Leaders

Miami Law Makes Its Presence Felt at AALS Conference in New Orleans

Miami Law Partners With Frost School of Music for New Combined Program

(Posted: 01-14-13) A new joint-degree program, a J.D. and M.A. in Arts Presenting and Live Entertainment Management, has been created by a partnership between Miami Law and the University of Miami's renowned Frost School of Music. The degree will enable students to prepare for a career in entertainment law, with a focus on the presentation of concerts, musical performances and other events.

Center for Ethics & Public Service Geared Toward Environmental Justice

(Posted: 01-14-13) Miami Law's Center for Ethics & Public Service has created a new project aimed at supporting communities affected by issues surrounding environmental justice in Miami-Dade County. The Environmental Justice Project, an outreach effort of the center's Historic Black Church Program, conducts research into the environmental, community, and public-health effects of environmental justice cases, in addition to serving as a liaison between communities, public officials and policy makers.

Staged Reading of Play '8' Set for University of Miami

(Posted: 01-11-13) A play that chronicles the historic constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8 will be performed as a staged reading on Jan. 27 at Miami Law. Written by Dustin Lance Black, the Academy Award-winning screenwriter of "Milk," the production of "8" will be staged under license from the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact, and directed by Marc Fajer, a member of the law school's faculty who has more than thirty years of theatrical directing experience.

Miami Law Joins Project to Lower Barriers to Justice

(Posted: 01-02-13) JoNel Newman and Melissa Swain of Miami Law's Health Rights Clinic plan to help develop a course model that will teach law students to use technological tools to make justice more easily available to low-income, self-represented litigants. Newman is an Associate Professor of Clinical Legal Education and the director of the Health Rights Clinic, and Swain is a supervising attorney for the clinic, which was formerly known as the Health and Elder Law Clinic.
