The University of Miami's Medical-Legal Clinic, a joint venture between Miami Law's Health and Elder Law Clinic, the Miller School of Medicine, and the Miami VA Hospital was selected by the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare to present a case study at its 2011 International Conference on Communication in Healthcare (ICCH) in Chicago in October. At the conference they will share with medical professionals from all over the world their innovative case study, which amicably bridged legal and medical gaps.

Yesterday, Miami Law proved yet again to be a force in the political arena when Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Christine Hernandez, JD '05, to the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission. Hernandez began serving on July 18, 2011, and her term will end on July 1, 2015.

Marlene Quintana, JD '96, was elected to serve as Chair of the 11th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) for a one-year term. In this role, she will lead the nine members of the JNC, who are responsible for recommending potential judges for appointment to the 11th Judicial Circuit of Florida, the largest in the state and fourth largest trial court in the nation.
Miami Law is steadily gaining recognition as an active force in international arbitration as two of its recent graduates, Patrick Miller, JD '10 and Anna Tumpovskiy, LL.M. '10, have published articles in this field in The International Law Quarterly, a publication of the Florida Bar International Law Section. This is a welcome development for the law school, which is situated within the epicenter of a growing international arbitration market.
Harvey C. Sepler, JD '84, was presented with the James C. Adkins Award for outstanding service to appellate law in Florida. This is the most prestigious award presented by The Florida Bar's Appellate Practice Section and one of the premier awards given by the Bar. "
Miami Law's Children & Youth Law Clinic (CYLC) recently received a favorable decision from an Administrative Law Judge in a lawsuit that the clinic filed against the State of Florida's Agency for Persons with Disabilities ("APD") nearly two years ago."
During his third year at Miami Law, Gayland "Tad" Hethcoat II was recognized as one of eleven finalists nominated for the Scribes Law-Review Award for his in-depth analysis "Free Hospital Care and Takings Clause: Franklin Memorial Hospital v. Harvey in a Chancing Health Care Landscape."
