Harvey C. Sepler, JD '84, was presented with the James C. Adkins Award for outstanding service to appellate law in Florida. This is the most prestigious award presented by The Florida Bar's Appellate Practice Section and one of the premier awards given by the Bar.
"It is rather like a lifetime achievement award (past recipients are almost exclusively Florida Supreme Court Justices and district court of appeal judges) and, although I rarely think of myself as at that stage in my career, I suppose others see me that way," said Sepler in an email. "Anyway, as a graduate of the UM Law School and my longtime affiliation with it, the award is a recognition of the law school, as well."
Sepler is Assistant Public Defender for Miami-Dade County as well as the coach of Miami Law's Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court team, which was recently ranked 6th in the nation. He has served as Chair of the Criminal Law Section of the Florida Bar.
He has been recognized as a Florida Super Lawyer and, in 2008, received Miami Law's First Annual M. Minnette Massey Award in recognition of his work with the school's Charles C. Papy, Jr., Moot Court Board. Sepler teaches Advanced Moot Court, an instructional program open to any second-year student desiring to further develop both oral and written advocacy skills.
