A recent panel discussion organized by Professor Donna Coker and various student organizations brought together local attorneys and human service providers to talk with students about the impact of the economic crisis on domestic violence.
Coker discussed empirical research that finds incident rates of domestic violence to be linked to employment instability and neighborhood disorganization. She was joined by Miami Law alumni Gina Beovides (Legal Aid) and Sabrina Salomon (VIDA), along with Caroline Yeardley (MUJER), who discussed the impact of the economic crisis on the lives of the battered women they serve.
The panel was sponsored by Miami Law Women, Child Advocacy & Family Law Society, and Miami Law Domestic Violence and Social Justice class.
