Florida Supreme Court Justice To Address UM Law Graduates

Harry Lee Anstead, a justice of the Supreme Court of Florida, will deliver the keynote address at the University of Miami School of Law's Spring 2000 Hooding Ceremony Sunday, May 21, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the James L. Knight Center in downtown Miami.

Approximately 400 new lawyers will receive their J.D. degrees and 85 candidates will receive LL.M. degrees in a variety of graduate programs during the afternoon ceremony.

Associate Dean Richard Williamson and Associate Dean and Dean of Students Jeannette F. Hausler will present the degree candidates, who then will receive their hoods from Dean Dennis Lynch.

Continuing a popular tradition for the UM School of Law hooding ceremony, several alumni will have the opportunity to hood their children who are members of the graduating class. The hooding parents and their graduating children include: Alan S. Becker, JD '69 and Marni-Jo Becker-Avin; Jorge Sanchez-Galarraga, JD '73 and Elena S. de la Vega; George R. Harper, JD '70 and G. Douglas Harper; and Kenneth Nelson Rekant, JD '62 and Nicole Robin Rekant.

Dean Lynch also will introduce Justice Anstead and Det Joks, president of the Law Alumni Association, and make concluding remarks.

In addition, the program will feature presentations by student speaker Shana Manuel and Donald L. West, president of the Student Bar Association.

J.D. candidate Rebecca Cantor will sing the national anthem.

Father Frank Corbishley, University of Miami chaplain, will give the invocation and the benediction.
