STUDENT BAR ASSOCIATION (SBA)

The Student Bar Association is hosting a joint mixer with the School of Medicine, the School of Business and the Graduate Students Association. The mixer will take place Friday, February 17th at Opium Garden (136 Collins Ave, South Beach), with a free Open Bar from 10:30-11:30 and free admission before 12:30am. You must have a pass to get the free admission. Passes will be distributed all week, so talk to one of your SBA reps to get one of these passes. We encourage everyone to come out and meet other members of the graduate and professional student community.

We encourage everyone to use designated drivers and cabs to get out to South Beach if you plan on drinking. The cab information for various cab companies is located below. SBA urges everyone to use these options. Please do not drink and drive.

MARITIME LAW SOCIETY

“WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE BOARDING A CRUISE SHIP”

SPEAKER: Michael Black, Esq.
WHEN: Thursday, February 16, 2006 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
WHERE: Room E265
NOTE: Complimentary pizza and soda

Michael Black is a local maritime attorney who specializes in cruise line personal injury, representing passengers and crew injured on ships. He is a partner in the law firm of Cassidy & Black, P.A. Mr. Black received his J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1995, and is a former Admiral of the school’s Maritime Law Society.

Maritime law, generally, involves incidents that occur on navigable waters. Navigable waters are those that can be used for commercial shipping, such as oceans, large lakes and rivers. In addition to the general maritime law, there are special laws that pertain just to cruise ships. Plan on taking a cruise in the future? Join us to learn how those laws may affect you!

We hope to see you there!
