On April 2, the Society of Bar and Gavel welcomed over 450 students, faculty members, administrators and alumni to the Barristers' Ball at the Omni Colonnade. Prior to the dinner, several student organizations held receptions for their members and guests. At dinner, several awards were presented and the traditional "Passing of the Gavel" ceremony was held, honoring outgoing and incoming presidents of student organizations.

The Roger Sorino Award was presented to Ritu Airan, the chair of the event, in recognition of her hard work and dedication to the School of Law and the community. Professor Mary Coombs was honored with the Hausler Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching and commitment to students. Professor Coombs later commented, "I was delighted. The only thing that could be better than having my students think I'm doing a good job for them is seeing them succeed as lawyers and people in the future and knowing that I had some small part in that success."

The Barristers' Ball was a huge success, uniting students with alumni, faculty, and prominent attorneys in South Florida. Ritu Airan said, "I am excited to see that the Barristers' Ball was as successful this year as in years past. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this year's event."

The event helped generate a donation of $2,500 from the Law School to the Miami Children's Hospital Foundation.
