Panel to Explore 'Lost Coalition' Between Blacks and Jews

In observation of Black History Month, UM Law School's Black Law Students Association and Cardozo, the Jewish law students society, have teamed up to present a panel discussion of "The Lost Coalition Between Blacks and Jews and the Future of Civil Rights."

The discussion--which will be from 3:30-5:30 p.m., February 17, in the Law School's student lounge--will feature Congressman Alcee Hastings (D-FL) and Arthur Teitelbaum, director of the Anti-Defamation League's Southern Area.

Prof. D. Marvin Jones, who helped the student organizations plan the event, will serve as discussion moderator, and Dean Mary Doyle will introduce special guests and honorees. Open to the public, the event will explore the reasons for the demise of the coalition that existed between Blacks and Jews early in the national civil rights movement of the 1960s and focus on ways to restore it.
