UM Law Students and Alumni Committed to Equal Justice
![]() |
On October 23rd, participants from UM Law’s HOPE Public Interest Resource Center along with University of Miami Law alumni convened in Washington D.C. to kick off the Equal Justice Works (EJW) Conference and Career Fair weekend.
The gathering of current students and alumni sparked networking, brainstorming and new friendships among the ever-growing base of UM Law graduates working in D.C. Graduates from several federal offices, including the DOJ (Department of Justice), the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), the SSA (Social Security Administration) and various public interest organizations and public sector positions offered support and encouragement to the 20 law students in attendance.
HOPE’s Marni Lennon, Assistant Dean for Public Interest and Pro Bono, also serves as EJW’s Chair of the National Advisory Committee. She had the honor of speaking at the conference and presenting the 2009 EJW awards at their annual awards luncheon.
Like the mission of the EJW, UM Law’s HOPE Public Interest Resource Center strives to provide access to justice and community support for those who are marginalized. By impressing upon students the importance of public service, HOPE seeks to promote pro bono advocacy and community service as an integral part of being a lawyer.
Equal Justice Works is an organization dedicated to creating a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers to work public service areas dedicated to equal justice. EJW helps law schools establish and strengthen public interest programs; provides public service work experience, professional development and training for students and lawyers; and builds strong support in the legal profession for public service through pro bono work and financial support.
