The Dade County Bar Association honored Miami Dade Public Defender Carlos J. Martinez by presenting him with the Robert L. Shevin Public Service Award during its 19th Annual Recognition luncheon at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami.  Martinez, a 1990 alumnus of the University of Miami School of Law, was recognized for his "Devoted And Exemplary Service As Miami-Dade Public Defender Benefitting And Enriching The Community, Bench And Bar."

When Judge Robert L. Shevin passed away in 2005, he left a legacy of distinguished public service. In his honor, his family established the award to recognize individuals who also dedicate themselves to exemplary public service. The late judge's son, Harry Shevin, presented the award.
