UM Law alumna Adele Stone, JD ’78, has been named the 2009 recipient of the Russell E. Carlisle Advocacy Award. The award is given annually to an attorney whose career has exemplified a commitment to the poor and to public interest work. Stone is the president-elect of the Florida Bar Foundation (FBF) and a shareholder with the Ft. Lauderdale law firm of Atkinson, Diner, Stone, Mankuta & Ploucha, P.A. She will receive the award at the Legal Aid Service of Broward County’s 35th Annual "For the Public Good" event on May 15, 2009.


Stone is Board certified by The Florida Bar in Real Estate Law. Her practice focuses on the areas of commercial real estate and general business law, including commercial purchase/sale transactions, loan transactions, leasing, corporate and business transactions, joint ventures and title insurance issuance, claims, and negotiations. She is also an arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association.

As president-elect of the FBF, Stone will serve as the president of the Board of Directors for the foundation beginning in July 2009. She is also the co-chairperson of the Professionalism and Ethics Committee and vice chairperson of the Pro Bono Committee of The Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Section. Additionally, she is a member of the steering committee of The Florida Bar/Florida Bar Foundation sponsored statewide pro bono program developed to represent homeowners under the threat of foreclosure.


Stone has been named as one of Florida Trend magazine’s “Legal Elite” and “Florida Super Lawyers.” She has also been selected for inclusion in the 2009 edition of The Best Lawyers In America for real estate law.
