One hundred and twenty judges, attorneys, and law students gathered at the University of Miami BankUnited Center on November 12, 2008, for the Law School’s Partnership for Professionalism Dinner.
Now in its 19th consecutive year, the program brings law students, alumni, and members of the Bench and Bar together each semester for informal roundtable discussions.
This semester’s dinner hosted 12 tables, each seating a judge, three attorneys, and six students. During the dinner, participants reviewed scenarios dealing with issues of civility, ethics and professionalism and law students presented summations. UM Law alumnus Judge Stanford Blake, who currently serves as the administrative judge for the criminal division of the 11th Judicial Circuit for Miami-Dade County, served as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies while retired Judge Philip Bloom, now of counsel in the Miami office of Squire Sanders & Dempsey, contributed some concluding remarks. In addition, judges Peter Adrien, Jerald Bagley, Ronald Dresnick, Pedro Echarte, Michael Genden, Carroll Kelly, Lester Langer, Victoria Platzer, and 26 attorneys also participated.
The Spring 2009 Partnership for Professionalism Dinner will be held on March 18, 2009. Associate Dean of Students William P. VanderWyden coordinates the program and encourages alumni to contact him with suggestions or to participate in the program.
