Alberto,

Here is the information you requested.

As I stated earlier, Information Mapping is not a piece of software; it is a methodology used to structure information so that readers can comprehend, learn/memorize, and understand it better. Information mapping is not a specific formatted way of doing this, rather it is a way of thinking. Thinking about the organization and analyzing information in a way that will make the reader better learn the information is what Information Mapping is all about. So, how do you do this?

There's some information on how to do this but not much. The only real way to learn Information Mapping is to pay a large sum of money and take their courses/workshops. However, here is some information I found.

In order to break the information down into manageable units, you must perform the chunking principle, that is grouping content into small manageable units so that it is easier to memorize or comprehend. After this is done, you then must make a hierarchy of chunking and labeling. This is an organization process of all the chunks of information. It works by grouping similar chunks of content and into larger chunks and labeling them. It is like a table of contents that provides structure and accessibility to the chunks of information. This gives the user insight on the whole picture while providing access to all the layers of detail.

To provide users with an easy way to follow a step-by-step process or a procedure, you can use an information mapping technique called yes/no and if/then tables. For example, if the user has to make a decision, you could make the following if/then table that provides him/her with the starting conditions and the resulting actions:

If you are serving...

Then serve...

fish white wine.
steak red wine.
vegetarian dish tofu smoothie.

An example of a yes/no table that is a step-by-step process is as follows:

Step

Action

1

Locate the recipient's mailing address.

2

Has the recipient's address changed?

If yes, go to Step 3.
If no, go to Step 5.

As you can see, i think that using this approach to organizing information is much better that just a standard list of information. There are many other techniques to information mapping, but most are in books and their course.
