Alvin B. Jackson, Jr. is a native of Lake County. He graduated from Eustis High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Government and Politics at the University of Maryland. Alvin is currently the Deputy Executive Director for Corporate Resources at the South Florida Water Management District. He assumed this position in July 2001. He is responsible for overseeing the District's administrative resources and information components of managing water including public outreach, budget development, human resources and procurement services.
 
Jackson comes to the District from Lake County, Florida, where he most recently served as the deputy county manager from 1996 to 2001. Prior to his tenure with Lake County, he served as city administrator of Eatonville and human services director for the City of Eustis. In these various city and county positions, he identified and successfully brought in millions of dollars in grant funding.
 
Mr. Jackson has served on several governing boards, some of which include:
  • Appointment by Governor of Florida to the Governor's Conference on Libraries and Informational Services and to the White House Conference on Libraries and Informational Services;
  • Appointment by the Florida Commissioner of Education to the Technical Committee on Marketing Education, serving four years;
  • Appointment by the Florida Secretary of State to the Florida Historic Preservation Council, serving eight years; and
  • Appointment by the Florida Secretary of State to Chair the 1998 State African American Heritage Committee.

Additionally, he was appointed by the Governor of Florida to the Florida Greenways and Trails Council in 2000 and 2001. Mr. Jackson is also a Board Director for the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation and a member of the International County Manager's Association. He is very active in economic and community development initiatives.
 
Some of Mr. Jackson's noted accomplishments include:

  • Initiated and co-founded the Affordable Housing Program for Lake County;
  • Initiated and coordinated Lake County's Legislative Day and Lobbying Activities;
  • Developed the Lake County Economic Development Plan; and
  • Developed a State recognized Comprehensive Youth Program – a proactive approach to meeting the needs of At-Risk Youth.

Some of the Awards Mr. Jackson has received include:

  • Outstanding Individual Achievement and Distinguished Service Award from the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation;
  • One of Central Florida's Black Achievers for 1997;
  • Outstanding Community Service Award in 1995 from the Orlando Sentinel Lake County and the Lake County League of Cities;
  • Mayor and City Manager's Award in 1992 from the city of Eustis, Florida.
