Plan maps potential future for panther refuge in rural Collier
Hikers and birders would have a new place to enjoy their hobbies under a roposed
plan for a refuge for endangered Florida panthers in rural Collier County, but hunters and
anglers will have to wait for further study. The plan sets out a 15-year program for
the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge that calls for $1.5 million in refuge
improvements and research, proposes almost $1 million for new personnel and lays out a
$150 million land preservation plan.
