Chapter 17 from The Everglades Book. Davis, S.M., et al, Landscape Dimension, Composition, and Function in a Changing Everglades Ecosystem, pps 419-444. Purpose: to identify changes in Everglades landscape (esp. vegetation patterns) during the century that cannot be explained by natural spatial/tamporal relationships as they are understood and that appear to be primarily due to human influence. Includes: tables, figures, photograhs and Appendices dealing with vegetation in the Everglades.

Document entitled: "Response of Wading Birds and Aquatic Macrofauna to Hydrological Conditions and Vegetative Structure of Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge" by H.L. Jelks, F.C. Jordan, W. Kitchens, Work order 32 Final Report, Florida Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (Univ. of Florida), May 1992. Bates # 985443-579. Objectives: 1) to determine if wading birds differentially forage in certain habitats or regions of the study area more than others and the factors that influence these choices, 2) to determine reproductive success of wading birds within the study area, 3) to determine the composition of aquatic macrofaunal assemblages across the mosaic of habitat types, 4) to relate various physicochemical and structural factors to variation in the composition of aquatic assemblages, 5) to relate gradients of water quality and hydroperiod to variation in the composition of aquatic assemblages, 6) to determine temporal and spatial variation in reproduction and recruitment for several numerically dominant aquatic taxa and 6) to integrate various studies into the comprehensive GIS database. Includes: Chapter 1-tables, figures and statistical data regarding the distribution of white ibises, reat egrets, great blue heron, wading birds, vegetation class proportions and water depth. Chapter 2-figures regarding the seasonal variation in mean canopy height, mean water depth, mean above ground biomass, species richness, total fish abundance (golden topminnow, bluefin killifish, flagfish, eastern mosquitofish, least killifish, sailfin molly, Everglades pygmy sunfish, bluespotted sunfish, spotted sunfish, prawn and crayfish.
