Computer Recommendations
If you are planning on purchasing a new desktop or laptop, these are the minimum requirements we recommend:
LAPTOP
- Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.0Ghz or higher
- Memory: 512MB recommended
- Hard Drive: 30 GB or higher
- Peripherals: CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
- Network Connectivity: 10/100 Ethernet PC-Card Network Interface.
- Modem: 56Kbps
- Operating System: Minimum Windows XP SP2
- Wireless Connectivity: Students interested in using wireless service will need a computer with an 802.11B/G wireless LAN card. See below.
DESKTOP
- Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2.66Ghz or higher
- Memory: 512MB recommended
- Hard Drive: 40 GB or higher
- Peripherals: CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
- Modem: 56Kbps
- Operating System: Minimum Windows XP SP2
SOFTWARE
- Microsoft Office minimum XP or 2003
- Anti-Virus Software: This and other software is available for students free of charge from the University of Miami. To obtain this software, please visit www.miami.edu/software or go to the Law School Help Desk, located in room C-118 in the law library.
Please note: If you already own a desktop or laptop you may not need to purchase a new one in order to access and use the Law School's network and applications. EXAMS ON YOUR LAPTOP
The University of Miami School of Law uses Examsoft to be able to take
exams on your Windows laptop. Click here for more information about the program and

WIRELESSCANES
WirelessCanes is the University of Miami’s wireless network, and is available in
most areas of the Coral Gables campus. This service provides fast,
reliable Internet and UM network connectivity to faculty and staff, as
well as students. All that is needed is a computer with an 802.11B/G
wireless LAN card. You can surf the Net, check e-mail, and much more from
anywhere within our wireless cloud which now includes all of the Law
