JD Program Orientation (2016 information forthcoming)
The law school hosts an orientation for incoming JD students usually beginning the Wednesday prior to classes starting. Over the course of three days students are assisted with everything from setting up all services for law school to getting student IDs and tours of the campus to attending receptions and participating in Miami Law’s optional HOPE Day of Service.
LL.M. Program Orientations (2016 information forthcoming)
At the LL.M. Orientation for International Arbitration incoming LL.M. students meet representatives from the Law School including the director of the program, faculty, career advisors, and librarians. Students are informed about various opportunities available for them during the academic year, including international moot court program, New York Job Fair, and research assistantships. Also, individual course advising sessions are scheduled during orientation and students are given an overview on practical matters, such as health insurance, setting up laptops and acquiring a student ID or “Cane Card.”

Miami Law’s International Graduate Law Programs (IGLP) hosts an orientation for the above LL.M. programs. This intensive orientation is specifically for international students in which they receive information about University of Miami School of Law such as: academics, program overview, course selection, student services, parking, career services, campus tour and more. There will also be information about the vicinity including: moving to Miami, housing, visas, driver’s licenses, and forms they will need to complete. Students also get to meet their future colleagues and the International Graduate Law Programs’ team.
Estate Planning, Real Property Development, Taxation, and Taxation of Cross-Border Investment
Each year the above Miami Law LL.M. Programs host a Joint LL.M. Orientation the Thursday before the first day of class and on the following day, they hold a Welcome Reception for incoming LL.M. students. At the orientation, incoming LL.M. students meet representatives from the Law School including various Deans, representatives from the Financial Aid office, Career Advisors for LL.M. students, librarians and student health center representative. In addition students are given an overview on setting up Laptops and acquiring a student ID or “Cane Card.”
Some Program-Specific Orientation Information:
Estate Planning – Additionally, on Orientation day all of the Estate Planning students meet with the Director and attend “Accounting for Lawyers” and their first (of four) “Tax Research for Estate Planners” lectures. Real Property Development – Orientation is required for all of students, and is mandatory for students taking the Real Property Distance Learning LL.M. Program. For those students, this time on campus introduces them to the two classes offered that weekend, and distance learners are encouraged to stay the following week to meet their professors and attend the remainder of their classes. Tax and Taxation of Cross-Border Investment – The Tax LL.M. Program has a mandatory orientation held the week before law school classes begin in the fall. The program has specific sessions scheduled during the Tax LL.M. orientation (on Thursday and Friday before classes begin) and students are expected to attend all of these sessions.
