Dear Prospective Student,

Welcome to UM Law HOPE (Helping Others Through Pro Bono Efforts) Public Interest Resource Center! If you are a student who seeks opportunities to live in an exciting and global community and find ways to make a difference in the lives of others you have come to the right place. In addition to the exceptional faculty, diverse curriculum and fascinating city surroundings, the University of Miami School of Law offers students a unique opportunity to learn and live in a community dedicated to access to justice. Our extraordinary array of clinics, programs, externships and courses with field components, ensure that each and every student has a way to further his/her commitment to social justice. From internships to fellowships, clinic positions and leadership opportunities, our students have the chance to immerse themselves in exciting advocacy programs. These hands-on programs allow all of our students to develop skills useful for any walk of life in the field of law.

It is our mission to instill a pro bono ethic in all of our students.

Whether you plan to work in the private sector, public sector or are not sure at this point, the opportunity to give back is central to professionalism and service. We work with each of our students to find the right pathway for developing skills while building on ultimate professional and personal goals. The HOPE Public Interest Resource Center serves as a starting point for students interested in public interest and public service. We provide flexible opportunities for volunteering, ongoing advocacy projects, manage the HOPE Fellows Program, host panels and lectures series and serve as a referral point for the many opportunities through UM Law Clinics and Programs.

We invite you to take a look through our website to learn more about what is happening at UM LAW HOPE. You will note the broad range of service and advocacy opportunities available to all of our students. We have a voluntary pro bono program and are thrilled to celebrate thousands of hours of service each and every year. Students completing the HOPE Challenge of 50 hours of law-related volunteer work are recognized at our annual reception. Students who perform at least 25 hours of community service receive transcript recognition.

Our students are leaders in and out of the classroom. Our faculty and administration are committed to supporting the goals of students with a passion for service. Our graduates lead the way with pro bono projects, post-graduate public interest fellowships and public service. We are proud of the many ways in which UM LAW faculty, students and alumni are making a difference in the lives of others.
